Sequence-stratigraphic interpretation in Block 05-1 of Nam Con Son basin based on foraminiferal assemblages
Abstract
Biostratigraphical analysis always accompanies petroleum exploration. Foraminiferal analysis especially contributes to building up sequence stratigraphic framework as well as discovering the geological history and paleogeography. Foraminiferal assemblages recovered in block 05-1 of the Nam Con Son basin in the Neogene period are relatively abundant and diverse. This assists in the determination of age, sequence subdivision, and stratigraphic correlation. In this article, the author identifi ed the shifts of depositional environment based on the changes of the foraminiferal groups, then focused on interpreting the sequence stratigraphy in the period from Middle Miocene to Pliocene in well A, which is typical for Block 05-1 of the Nam Con Son basin.
