Seismic stratigraphy and depositional environment of the upper miocene, Phu Khanh basin
Abstract
The Upper Miocene sediment of the Phu Khanh basin was deposited during the post-rift period by thermal subsidence of the basin and with abundant sediment supply mainly from the Song Hong basin. Seismic stratigraphy interpretation using sequence stratigraphy was carried out in order to interpret the depositional system tracks, sequence boundaries and their relationship with the relative sea level change. By interpreting seismic data and comparing with well data in the Phu Khanh basin, the authors defined the seismic facies characteristics and predicted the depositional environment of the Upper Miocene section. The result of this study is a premise for further study of the petroleum potential in the Phu Khanh basin.
