Abstract

Formation temperature in Hai Thach and Moc Tinh fields used to be estimated based on DST data and wireline logging data using the conventional Horner analysis method, resulting in large uncertainty (wide range of 157 - 187°C at 4,200mTVD). This paper introduces a more accurate method for formation temperature estimation using downhole gauge data, facilitating cost optimisation and risk reduction in drilling as well as production. The new method has significantly reduced the formation temperature uncertainty to only 6°C for Hai Thach field and 4°C for Moc Tinh field.
